Koyna's wastewater to be used for Barsu refinery

Ratnagiri:  Despite the opposition of the locals, the government is now thinking of using Koyna's wastewater for the refinery project imposed on the Barsu area, for which a 160 km long pipeline is planned from Chiplun to Rajapur.

A survey has been started for that. A private company is conducting this survey and it will cost 1 crore 90 lakh rupees. It is understood that the survey of 26 km has been completed so far. A dam is planned to be constructed in the Vashishti River for this water supply. The dam will be constructed where the canal ends at Pimpli and a land survey has been done for it. This planned pipeline will pass through Chiplun, Sangameshwar, Lanja, and Rajapur talukas.

67.5 TMC water released after power generation at Koynanagar. Chiplun Municipal Council picks up 1.4 lakh liters of water out of that. The water requirement of many villages along the river is also met due to this wastewater. Will they face water shortages in the future? This question is still unanswered.

Earlier, many committees were appointed on how to use this wastewater. Report prepared. But no action was taken. Now if this water is going to be used for a single project, the question has also arisen that what sin have the farmers in the talukas from Mandangad to Rajapur committed that they cannot get the benefit of this water.
