Approval of Rs. 330 crores for the revival of canals in the Tilari Inter-State Project


Mumbai: In the 6th meeting of the control board of the Tilari Inter-State Dam Project, Maharashtra and Goa's joint and ambitious project for the revival of canals in the Tilari Inter-State Dam Project was approved for Rs. 330 crores. 

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Goa Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, among other dignitaries, at the Sahyadri State Guest House.

"Our thoughts are the same. Therefore, we can do a lot together for the benefit of Goa and Maharashtra," said Chief Minister Shri. Shinde. Deputy Chief Minister Shri. Fadnavis said that Goa is Maharashtra's younger brother, and therefore, we will make efforts to fulfill their expectations.


Goa Chief Minister Shri. Sawant said, "The Maharashtra government has cooperated very well with us from time to time. There is a belief that cooperation will continue in all areas, including water. Therefore, they expressed gratitude for the cooperation received from the Maharashtra government for the Tilari project.


Goa Water Resources Minister Shri. Shirodkar also expressed the expectation that cooperation would increase in other areas as well, not just in water.


The work on the canals of the Tilari project was done 30 to 35 years ago. Therefore, the meeting unanimously agreed to revive the deteriorated and damaged canals. Approval of Rs. 330 crores was given for this purpose. A decision was also taken to compensate the 22 affected projects in the Sindhudurg district. At this point, Chief Minister Shri. Sawant proposed to increase the height of the project. Instructions were given to prepare a comprehensive report on this, including a feasibility study. Maharashtra has agreed to cooperate with Goa in building the capacity of engineers. It was also decided to establish a joint office for the revival and management of canals at the location of the Tilari project.
