Mumbai: Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar will soon take a decision regarding the disqualification of 16 MLAs from the Shinde group of Shiv Sena.
Rahul Narvekar is now in action mode after getting the constitution of Shiv Sena. He has issued notices to MLAs from both factions of Shiv Sena. Shinde group has 40 MLAs while Uddhav has 14 MLAs.Both parties have been given seven days to submit arguments.
Rahul Narvekar had said that we will take a decision after studying the constitution of Shiv Sena. Accordingly, he demanded the constitution of Shiv Sena from the Election Commission. Finally, the Election Commission has provided a copy of the Constitution to the Assembly Speaker. This decision will be taken on the basis of Shiv Sena constitution.
Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena's Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray group have filed a petition regarding the disqualification of each other's MLAs. Now a decision is likely to be taken soon in this matter. This time MLAs will have to submit an affidavit with proof.
Meanwhile, the Thackeray group filed a petition in the Supreme Court earlier this week and demanded that the Speaker be directed to hear the disqualification petitions of the MLAs immediately. MLA Sunil Prabhu had filed a disqualification petition against Eknath Shinde and 15 others as Chief Whip. After that, Sunil Prabhu approached the Supreme Court again this month on behalf of the Thackeray group. The petition has claimed that Rahul Narvekar is deliberately delaying the hearing even as the Supreme Court in its May 11 judgment directed the Speaker to decide on the petitions within a time bound manner.
