Pune: Industry Minister Uday Samant has given instructions to prepare a detailed plan to control water pollution in the Indrayani and Pavana rivers due to industrial pollution in the Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, and Hinjewadi industrial areas and the city. He gave suggestions during a meeting held at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
MP Shreerang Barne, Shekhar Singh, Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Deepak Singla, Additional Commissioner of PMRDA, Dr. Bipin Sharma, CEO of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, and Ayush Prasad, CEO of the District Council were present at the meeting.
Minister Samant said that the Indrayani and Pavana River rejuvenation project is a very important project. All related agencies will work together to implement the project. This project is worth about 1500 crores, and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, PMRDA, and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will raise funds and implement the project as soon as possible. If there is a shortage of funds, the government will provide them. A committee should be formed under the chairmanship of the Municipal Commissioner to carry out this work. Local representatives and voluntary organizations should also be included in the committee.
When the river becomes clean from the source, many people will benefit. The government should be positive about this project and the administration should call for tenders by October 2023. The project should be completed within two years.
